On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Electrical Engineering Diploma students held a plant visit to PT. PJB UP Cirata which is one of the work programs of the Electrical Engineering Diploma Student Association (Himaprodit) accompanied by Electrical Engineering lecturer, Mr. Yuliansyah, SE., MM, Ir. Edy Ispranyoto., MBA and Mr. Ibnu Hajar, ST., MT.
Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) is the largest hydropower plant in Southeast Asia, this PLTA is located in Cipeundeuy , West Bandung, Purwakarta Regency and Cianjur Regency. This place became the location of the visit because there are many aspects that support the students in terms of knowledge gained, facilities and presenters who are experts in their respective fields.
This PLTA has an underground power house construction with a capacity of 8 × 126 Megawatts (MW) so that the total installed capacity is 1,008 Megawatts (MW) with an average electricity production of 1,428 Giga Watthour (GWh) per year. The 1008 MW capacity consists of Cirata I which has four units each operating with 126 MW installed power which began operating in 1988 with 504 MW installed power. Along with it, Cirata II also equipped with four units (each 126 MW), which began operating since 1997 with installed power of 504 MW. Cirata I and II are able to produce an average of 1,428 GWh of electricity per year which then distributed through an extra 500 kV extra high voltage transmission network to the Java-Madura-Bali interconnection system.
In addition to hydroelectric power plants, PT. PJB UP Cirata also produces electricity from the Solar Power Generation panel. This PLTS has been operating since June 2015 with a capacity of 1 Mega Watt Peak (MWP) consisting of 5 Photovoltaic Array areas. The 5 areas are PV Array with a capacity of 530 kW with Central Inverter 550 kW, PV Array 25 × 20 kW with String Inverter 25 × 20 kW and PLT Multi type 2 × 4 kW with dual axis tracker that produces 1 MW when operating. This PLTS is actually in the development and research phase of Cirata research which is specifically designed for research needs related to the enrichment of knowledge and experience for the application of large-scale PLTS in Indonesia. Cirata PLTS is equipped with a Green Energy campus (C-GEn campus) facility which is a study center for PJB renewable energy generation. A place of study for the development of large-scale PLTS in Indonesia.
PT Pembangkit Java Bali (PJB) UP Cirata is a plant operated by a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN Persero), which is channeled through a 500 kV power transmission line to the Java Bali system governed by the PLN Central Load Regulatory (P3B) dispatcher. Cirata’s main contribution to the Java-Bali system is carrying the peak load and operating at 17.00-22.00, with the LFC (Load Frequency Control) mode of operation, which has a line charging facility when the Java-Bali system experiences Black Out and Start-up Operation / synchronous to the 500 network KV is relatively fast, which is only about five minutes time.
